Accessing documents outside your subscription plan

Your user ID may enable you to see the names of publications that are outside your subscription plan and, after you agree to the payment of additional charges, to access documents outside your plan. Publications containing documents ouside your plan are designated by a single asterisk (*) or a double asterisk (**) after the publication name.

A single asterisk (*) after a publication name indicates you are permitted to search the publication and to view the titles of documents contained within it at no additional charge. After agreeing to the payment of additional charges, you may also access documents within these publications.

A double asterisk (**) after a publication name indicates you are permitted to search the publication and to view the titles of documents contained within it at no additional charge. Accessing the documents within these publications, however, is prohibited.

In a results list, if a document falls outside your subscription plan, either an Access Now ($) link appears in the results list below the document title or an Additional Charges Will Apply icon (Additional Charges Will Apply) appears below the title to the left of each of the parallel citation hyperlinks. Then:

  • If you select the Access Now ($) link, you will be accepting the listed charges, and the document will appear.
  • If you select a parallel citation preceded by an Additional Charges Will Apply icon (Additional Charges Will Apply), the Additional Charges Will Apply page appears, where you either accept the charges and access the document or cancel the transaction.

If necessay, you can postpone your decision by saving a document that is outside your plan to a folder. You can open the folder later and either agree to the additional charges and access the document or delete the document from the folder.

Note: Your user ID may be set up to prevent you from accessing documents not included in your subscription plan. Typically, this is by policy of your legal firm. In this case, if you want to access these documents, please contact your account administrator, or call Customer Support.
