How do I annotate selected document text?

You can make annotations to selected text in an open document and highlight the selected text so it appears as if you have marked it with a translucent marker. If you access the open document from a results list, you must save the document in a folder in order to preserve the annotations and highlighting. If you access the open document from a folder, you can close the document, and the annotations and highlighting are preserved automatically.

To create an annotation in an open document, follow these steps.

  1. Use your computer's pointing device to select the text you want to annotate and highlight. The selected text menu appears.
  2. Select Annotate. The Annotate Text dialogue box appears and displays an unlabeled text box and a palette of colours.
  3. In the text box, enter an annotation of up to 4000 characters.
  4. In the colour palette below the Choose your highlight colour heading, select the colour you want to use for highlighting.
  5. Select Save. Lexis Advance Pacific adds the annotation and applies the highlighting to the selected text. An annotation icon (Annotation) appears in the margin next to where the annotation and highlighting begins.
  6. Take one of these actions:
    1. If you accessed the open document from a results list, you must save the document to a folder in order to preserve the annotations and highlighting. For more information, see What are Folders? and How do I save a results list or selected documents to a folder?
    2. If you accessed the open document from a folder, you can close the document, and the annotations and highlighting are preserved automatically.
