Retrieve a Document by Its ID

Before You Start: The information in this topic applies to Nexis UniĀ® URL API users. This application programming interface (API) lets users execute tasks in Nexis Uni using URLs, rather than the standard user interface. Please contact your LexisNexis representative if you would like additional information about this feature.

Use this URL to retrieve and display a document using its ID, and scroll to a specific page. The page and reporter parameters are used to scroll to a specific page in the document.

document Indicates the user wants to view a document.

Parameter that specifies the content type (Optional).

Example: collection=cases

Parameter that contains the document ID.

Example: id=3S54-5FP0-003B-R3SM-00000-00

To find a document ID, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Nexis Uni.
  2. Run a search for the document for which you want the ID.
  3. Open the document in the full view.
  4. Using your mouse, select any text in the document.
  5. Select Copy text to clipboard from the Options for Selected Text menu that displays.
  6. Paste the copied text and the accompanying document citation into a blank document.
  7. Use your mouse to hover over the document citation.
  8. Right-click, then select Edit hyperlink from the right-click menu.
  9. Use your browser tools to copy the identifier that follows the id/ parameter in the URL. This is the document ID to use when constructing a URL to retrieve a document by ID.

In the example below, 3RJN-3D30-0039-446P-00000-00 is the document ID.


Query parameter that contains the document page number.

Example: page=167

Query parameter that contains the identifier for the reporter.

Example: reporter=1100
(context) Distinguishes between primary Lexis Advance and adaptations of that product, such as Nexis, Nexis Uni, and Prison Kiosk.
