iKnowledge: Create effective searches (text only)
This tutorial module explains how to effectively use the tools within Nexis to meet your own search requirements.
There are a couple of really simple rules that can be applied to ensure that you are using Nexis most efficiently, firstly keep your search terms really broad as you can always organise and narrow once you have retrieved your results. Secondly select the most relevant source group for your search to ensure that you are not retrieving additional results unnecessarily and thirdly choose the date range you wish to search.
Once you retrieve your results you can continue add additional key words you wish to see appearing the articles using the search within results box on the right or use the results grouping on the left to locate publications, themes and locations. All changes you make to the results will be reflected in the activity trail at the top of the screen. You can also use the first link in the activity trial or the edit search button on the right to return to the news page to continue your research.
