Retrieve a Document by Its URN (Uniform Resource Name)

Use this URL to retrieve and display a document using its uniform resource name (URN).

URL Template

http://advance.lexis.com/api/document?collection={collection-id}&id={urn:contentItem:}

Parameter that specifies the content type (Optional).

Example:collection=cases

id

Parameter that contains the document URN.

Example:id=4TGW-RB50-TX4N-G1J4-00000-00

To find a document URN, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Lexis®.
  2. Run a search for the document for which you want the ID.
  3. Open the document in the full view.
  4. Select Copy Citation.
  5. Using your browser tools, copy the highlighted text displayed at the bottom of the pop-up.
  6. Paste the copied text and the accompanying document citation into a blank document.
  7. Use your mouse to hover over the document citation.
  8. Right-click, then select Edit hyperlink from the right-click menu.
  9. Use your browser tools to copy the identifier that follows the id/ parameter in the URL. This is the document ID to use when constructing a URL to retrieve a document by ID.

In the example below, 4TGW-RB50-TX4N-G1J4-00000-00 is the document ID.
