What are favourites?

A favourite is a filter or set of filters you have applied to a search or a results list, then saved for use with future searches. Applying filters to searches limits the searches to the specific areas defined by the filters. They enable you to create searches that yield only results important to your research. Filters can be any of the following:

  • Jurisdictions, content types, and/or legal topics. You apply these as search filters by selecting the Search Everything button at the right edge of the search box.
  • Sources. You apply these as search filters by selecting the Browse button at the top of the page and selecting Sources. For more information on browing sources, see What is the Browse Sources option?
  • Topics. You apply these as search filters by selecting the Browse button at the top of the page and selecting Topics. For more information on browsing topics, see What is the Browse Topics option?
Important: After you use the Browse Sources option to view the table of contents for a specific source, you can save a link to that table of contents as a favourite. Later, you can access the link in your favourites list and select it to display the table of contents. While this link is not a filter as described above, you may find this capability both helpful and time saving.

After your results have appeared in a results list, you can also apply additional filters to your search results and save them as favourite search filters. In fact, you may find that you can create more precise search filters in this way than you can when creating a search.

Recent & Favourites list

After you apply any of the filters above to a search and generate a set of results, Lexis Advance Quicklaw automatically adds the filters to the Recent & Favourites list, where you can select them for use in later searches.
