Publication Tree Page

Use the Publication Tree to display a document's location within a source. The Publication Tree is available when viewing the Full Text View only. For example, if you are viewing the full text of a specific Act, the Publication Tree displays the Table of Contents (Index) of the entire Act, showing the names of the sections and schedules before and after the one you are viewing.

Items displayed in the Publication Tree are linked, so you may quickly view other sections of the document. Use the trail at the top of the screen (e.g., Legislation - All Subscribed Legi... > competition act 1998(811)) to travel back up the path you have taken.

The Publication Tree may appear in "truncated" format or "full" format, depending on how the Publication Tree Format option on your Preferences page is set. With the truncated tree, as you navigate down through levels of the publication, previous levels are truncated, showing only the level you are currently viewing; with the full tree, you may open multiple sections and levels in the same screen. To change the tree format, click on the My Settings link on the top navigation bar and change the option in the Search and Results Settings subtab.

To resize the width of the Publication Tree, click on and drag the border between the Publication Tree and the document text.

Displays the document's Table of Contents, highlighting your current location.
Index:
If you view the Index, the display starts with the first Index entry, not the entry for the document you are viewing. The View by Index option is not available for all sources.
Note: If only one view is available, it will appear as a link instead of in a drop-down list.

Table of Contents and Index

The document you are viewing is highlighted in the Table of Contents/Index (the highlight changes if you change documents). In the Table of Contents view, the display shows the number of search results in each node if you reached the document through a search and the source supports this feature.

From the Table of Contents, you may do the following:

  • Show/hide sub-items: click on the plus sign Open Tree next to the item name to display any sub-items associated with it. Click on the minus sign Close Tree to hide the sub-items.
  • View an item: click on the item name to view the text. If you click on a link above the document level, such as a title, the first document that occurs after the title is displayed. If you click on a link below a document level, the appropriate point within the document is displayed.
  • Tag an item for delivery: click on the checkbox next to the item name to tag it. When you tag an item, all sub-items associated with it are also tagged. Use the Delivery icons to print, e-mail, or download tagged items. For more information on delivery options, click on the Help link.
Note: The checkboxes remain tagged only as long as the same source is displayed. If you change sources or change to another view, such as Browse or View by Index, the checkboxes will not remain tagged.

From the Index (if available), you may do the following:

  • Show/hide sub-items: click on the plus sign Open Tree next to the item name to display any sub-items associated with it. Click on the minus sign Close Tree to hide the sub-items.
  • View an item: click on the item name to view the text.
